COMMON ISSUES
Below are just a few common issues you may experience with your garage door or garage door operator. If in doubt, call us today!
My door squeaks when it opens and closes
Springs, rollers and hinges can squeak and be noisy. This is caused by normal use and does not necessarily indicate a problem.
Before calling a professional service technician, use a spray-on lubricant (recommended specifically for garage doors).
If the noise persists, call Mountain View Overhead Doors for service.
The cable is frayed
Cables run from the bottom of each side of your door attached to a bracket. Above the door, the cables are attached by two drums. When the door is opened/closed the cables wind/unwind from the drums.
If you have a broken cable, the door will most likely tilt to one side. Trying to open and/or close the door may lead to your door coming off it’s track(s) and may lead to serious injury or property damage.
Contact a Mountain View Overhead Doors. Do not attempt to remove, repair or adjust springs or cable.
HIGH SPRING TENSION CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
Garage door does not open smoothly, but in a jerky motion or with loud noises.
This may be due to the lack of maintenance of the garage door or garage door operator. Consult Mountain View Overhead Doors for a service check-up.
When I push the button on my garage door remote, the garage door doesn’t open
This could be due to several issues. The most common is that your garage door remote may need the batteries replaced. The cable(s) may be broken or not spooled on the drum lift, or your spring(s) may be broken. Please consult Mountain View Overhead Doors for help.
My garage door does not close all the way, but goes back up into the open position
An object may be blocking the path of the photo eye sensors of a garage door opener or the photo eye sensors of the opener may be misaligned.
Photo sensors out of alignment
If your garage door opens, but will only close when the wall button is engaged, look to see that your safety sensors are clean and in alignment with each other. A small green light should be on each sensor if they are in alignment and no obstacles are between each sensor. Occasionally garage door sensors do go bad, if no light is present, they may have to be replaced.
